First Clinical Rotation: What to Actually Pack.
The unglamorous checklist nobody hands you before day one on the floor.

Nursing school preps you for assessments, pharmacology, and care plans. It does not prep you for the moment you realize, forty minutes into your first clinical rotation, that you have nowhere to put your pen.
What do you actually need on day one?
Less than you think, but more than the syllabus says: a working pen (bring three to two will migrate), a pocket notebook or brain sheet, your stethoscope, alcohol swabs, a watch with a second hand, and a snack that survives being sat on. Everything else lives in your locker or your bag.
Where does it all go?
A set of scrubs with a real pocket system is the difference between looking composed and playing a constant game of where-did-I-put-it. Angled front pockets hold the phone and notebook; a chest pocket keeps pens from clicking against your badge; cargo pockets take the shears and tape you'll be lending out all day.
The honest advice from every preceptor we asked: comfortable shoes, layers for the unit's weather system, and the humility to write everything down. The confidence comes later. The pockets you can sort out today.
