Dental hygienists log a different kind of 12 hours: fewer sprints down a corridor, far more sustained, precise, lean-in work. The occupational hazard isn't the code blue — it's the eighth consecutive hour of holding your shoulders somewhere your physiotherapist would not approve of.
What does a chairside pocket loadout look like?
Lighter than a floor nurse's, heavier on the small stuff: extra prophy angles, floss samples, a pen that survives autoclave-room humidity, lip balm, and a phone that stays in the angled front pocket through a hundred sit-stand cycles without diving for the floor. The chest pocket earns its keep for the loupes cloth.
Can a scrub actually help your posture?
It can stop hurting it. A four-way-stretch set means the reach across a patient doesn't fight the fabric, and a top that holds its shape means you're not tugging a hem back into place forty times a day. Add the standard chairside advice — stool height so your elbows sit at ninety degrees, a stretch break every patient or two, shoulders down on purpose — and the end of the day feels noticeably less like a hinge in need of oil.
Fluid resistance, for the record, is not optional in a profession built around an ultrasonic scaler.
